Wake Up
"Wake Up" is an interactive story made in Twine. It follows the story of an unnamed protagonist who must navigate their way through three different environments, each filled with horror elements and cryptic clues. I chose specifically to not give the story a concrete plot or detailed explanation of any of the game’s events. I wanted to create something really ambiguous and dreamlike, as though the protagonist was trapped in a limbo or a never-ending nightmare. The “clues” that the player finds throughout the game are essentially symbolic representations of traumatic events that have happened in the protagonist’s past, and it’s up to the player to interpret what they mean.
At any point in the game, the player can choose to “give up,” letting the protagonist die and sending them back to the beginning of the game, where they will wake up and the story will start all over again. This is a mechanic I first experimented with in the Twine Game Jam, and wanted to recreate again in the final project. This story is meant to be a metaphoric representation of dealing with your past and having to choose whether to keep moving forward with your life or to give up.
